The ACA is a non-profit organization established in 1999 to promote safety, responsibility and ethics in American canyoneering, and to promote constructive communication among an international canyoneering community. It was founded by Rich Carlson.

The ACA hosts many training programs to help promote safety among canyoneers.

The American Canyoneering Association has established a standard curriculum, presenting the most comprehensive technical training available, designed to enhance safety, efficiency and enjoyment for canyoneers of all experience levels.

Their courses are the only internationally recognized courses offered in the U.S. As a result, they have drawn students from across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the Far East and the Middle East.

The ACA curriculum is presented in five levels -- Technical Canyoneering, Advanced Canyoneering, Canyon Rescue, Canyon Leader Course and Exam, and Guide Certification Course and Exam. Courses teach skills and define standards; the exams assess whether or not the candidate meets those standards.

NOTE: They offer special rates are available to back country rangers and active members of search and rescue teams operating in areas with canyon terrain. Contact the ACA for details.

They also offer Private Instruction. If their schedule or objectives do not suit yours, you may want to consider private instruction. Any of our courses can be cheduled by request on an individual or small group basis. Each day is tailored to your abilities and desires and allows for the utmost personal attention.
