Harness

sitcnaelac A canyoneering harness is something you will wear all day. If you are doing routes with water, you will constantly be getting it wet. It will get dirty fast. Just about any good climbing harness will work
While one usually uses an appropriate technical harness, it is sometimes useful to know how to improvise a harness from webbing or a short line. One technique is the Swiss seat. One can also use the bowline on a coil. Either can be used if your harness gets destroyed on a rock or if you come across a group that came ill-prepared.

Chest harnesses are also used in certain canyoneering situations, especially ones where waterfalls are involved. These are not commonly used in Utah canyoneering.
