Incorrect technical information can be frustrating at best, deadly at worst. When you create a description of the canyon, focus on accuracy. One of the easiest ways to create a good canyoneering description is to bring a small tape-recorder with you on your trip. As you are going along - record information that you will later transcribe into your trip report. (Obviously, you will want either a small dry bag or waterproof box for your recorder if you are doing a wet canyon.) |
[edit] Information To Include
[edit] Information Required to plan a trip
- Generally accepted canyon rating - in the ACA Canyon Ratings format (don't make it up or rate it yourself, look it up)
- Gear required/recommended
- Skills required
- Information about access to the canyon
- Permit related information (needed? available? permit-issuing body?)
- How many cars needed? Can you drive to the trailhead? How long is the approach?
[edit] Information about the Canyon Itself
- Detailed information on the approach
- GPS Coordinates are nice if you have them
- Rappel-by-rappel or obstacle-by-obstacle walkthrough of canyon
- Things to be aware of with any given rap or anchor (such as difficulty pulling rope...etc.)
- Detailed description of the exit
- Again - GPS coordinates if you have them
[edit] Photos are always good
- Photos of the canyon are always good. Photos of the approach, photos of the rappels, photos of anything you want to show...
[edit] Information about yourself
- Include a link to your user page by typing
--~~~~
at the end of the page.... which will "sign it" for you when you create the page. Be sure to have a description about who you are in your user page.
[edit] Be sure to flag the page as a new page!
- Include this code at the bottom of your entry:
{{beta-new}}to mark it as a new description so it can begin the process of peer-review. (If you forget to put that on the bottom of your new entry, someone else will have to do it for you, and that's not polite.)
