Munter Hitch

The Munter Hitch is a load releasing hitch. Common uses are as:
- To rappel if you lose your rappel device.
- Rigged as part of a contingency anchor to lower canyoneers or equipment.

- Form a loop in the rope
- Flip the loop over itself
- Clip a carabiner through the loop and one strand of rope.
- Pull the knot tight on the wide section of the HMS carabiner.

The load bearing line is the upper strand. The brake line is the lower strand.
The Munter Hitch is slowed by raising the lower rope up and right to apply more friction on the knot.
