Thanks for the input on the rappel backup section. Definitely not a technique for common use. In fact, the only time I've looked over an edge and thought, "Maybe I need an auto-backup" is when passing a knot. Any other times you've found it useful? Most of my experience with this has been practicing passing knots rapping out of a tree in my back yard. I really haven't had difficulty getting the prusik or Bachman above the rap device to release when I need it to. Has this been your experience? The Bachman with a sling has worked well for me climbing up an 8mm rope out of a pothole. But on the out-of-the-tree rapping it seems to slip a little, so I've preferred the prusik or Bachman with cord.

I removed your "Controversy" section and incorporated that section into the main body text. I don't think what you said was very controversial, in that I agreed with it, so I thought it fit better in the paragraphs introducing the technique. Thanks again for your input
