Talk:Canyoneering Gear

Interesting addition of the community gear section. I like the idea of having a personal/community gear section. I wonder if we should split off some of the stuff from the "enthusiast" section and put it in the community gear section. Things like "pot shots" and "happy hookers" are probably in the same category as bolts in "community gear"... Although the original distinctions were taken straight from Tom's site - not bad categories - but maybe we can rethink how the gear is sorted. Perhaps putting the gear in by category of "canyon type"... Hmm... I guess in Tom's mind he thought "The average person going canyoneering thinks of themselves and what kind of gear they need..." But if you have a bunch of "intermediate followers" going down Heaps they will all die a miserable death - because there is no rope listed under any of those categories. What are you thoughts? --Ryan Gardner 23:42, 16 May 2005 (CDT)

Pot shots, happy hookers, rope etc seem more like "team gear" than belonging to the larger community of canyoneers. So far, I have only thought of the one catagory (bolts) for community gear so maybe adding team gear is right. Maybe dues and letters organized by ZCC are community gear? I like the idea of separating out leader from follower on some level though. Clearly the leader needs to think of gear differently than followers.

Good point - I see what you mean by "community gear": gear that will help more than just your own party, but the entire community. What might be good is for now to stick with this distinction, but keep in mind that we will be rearranging this in the future and then when we get a few more parties actively involved we can get all our heads together and have a good discussion on how to split this gear up. --Ryan Gardner 12:21, 17 May 2005 (CDT)
